The City of Los Angeles has announced that the annual business tax renewal deadline is February 28, 2025. If you operate a business in Los Angeles, you are required to file your business tax renewal (BTRC), even if your business did not generate revenue in 2024.
Is everyone required to open a Business License in LA City?
The answer is, yes! However, certain cities require you to pay them directly and they are considered unincorporated cities. Is your city unincorporated? Go to this website. If you are in the blue area, you need to file with LA City tax renewal (BTRC) by February 28th.
If you are outside of the blue area then you will need to go directly to your unincorporated city and apply for a business license.

Tax Extension for Fire-Affected Businesses
If your business is located within ZIP codes 90402, 90272, or 90049, you will automatically receive an extension until April 14, 2025 to file your business tax renewal.
If your business is outside these ZIP codes but was directly impacted by the fires, you may also qualify for an extension. Submit a written request with reasonable proof of disruption to the Office of Finance before the original deadline of February 28, 2025.
